Well, I never thought that a trip to Galveston would ever be like this!! Rob, me, Rob's sister Carrie and her family all decided it would be fun to go to the coast for the 3 day weekend of the 4th. Sure, others might have the same idea, but it would be alright. We exit the highway and it takes 30 minutes to go 1 mile... that should have been our first foreshadowing event of the weekend. Now, don't get me wrong, we had fun and got to play on the beach, but wow... what we had to go through for it!
We stayed at your basic Best Western, but it was overflowing at the brim and marked up 2x what it should have been. People were sleeping in their beat up vans in the parking lot. When we reserved our room it was the last that weekend. So we had myself, Rob, Carrie, Phillip, Riley, Mattie and 2 yr old Ryan all in one room!! So crazy and crowded it was funny. Shower time was a different experience. We got to eat at some great seafood restaurants and spend a lot of the time at the beach. Not the public beach, the private beach in front of the Brown's condo. Thank God for the Brown's! They let us come hang out with them and use their condo a little. It was such a nice break from the sardine can the seawall was. On the 4th we went out to eat and left the restaurant 30 minutes before the firework display was supposed to start on the seawall. It took 2 HOURS to get from 30th street to 55th street. I was GOING NUTS, my anxiety and claustrophobic tendencies kicked in fo sho! We got to see the fireworks from the car, out the windows and sunroof. When we got home, we went to bed!
The next day we went to the beach at the Brown's again, only to get attacked by sea lice. These things are the size of a piece of rice and get into your bathing suit and sting you. I couldn't even get in the ocean after that attack. That night we did my favorite thing ever, the same thing my sister and I have loved since we were kids..... MAGIC CARPET PUTT PUTT GOLF COURSE!
Rob won, Riley got second, me third and Mattie last. It was semi crowded but well worth the wait. Here are some pictures from putt putting....
